It may only be February, but spring is coming! Here are some great opportunities to get outside and volunteer around the Lower Beaver Neighborhood.

Debra Heights Church to hold community egg hunt March 23
The Lower Beaver Neighborhood Association is once again partnering with Debra Heights Wesleyan Church to host a massive Community Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 23. City offers free Tiny Trees program
Des Moines Public Works is once again offering up to five FREE Tiny Trees to residents. The trees may be planted on private property to help grow and diversity the urban canopy. Residents may choose from eight different species ranging including shade trees ornamental trees (i.e., trees that reach a maximum of 20 feet tall), fruit and nut trees, and coniferous trees. Ordered trees will be available for pickup Saturday, May 11.

City announces Block Challenge Grant 2024
The city of Des Moines has announced details for the Block Challenge Grant 2024. Since 2001, the Block Challenge Grant has awarded $1.1 million in matching funds to help more than 600 households complete a wide range of exterior home improvement projects. This year, the city has allocated funds for approximately ten more teams ranging from five to nineteen households each.

LBNA to host FREE vaccine clinic & health screenings Jan 30

Neighborhood Inspections Division completes reorganization
The city of Des Moines’ Neighborhood Inspections Division recently completed a reorganization of its neighborhood inspectors. The result of this process has been new territories for inspectors and supervisors. Inspectors are responsible for investigating zoning code violations, safety concerns, and nuisance properties.
