City adds new lights to Woodlawn Park

In response to a wave of hateful vandalism in Woodlawn Park, cooperation between city councilwoman Connie Boesen and the Parks & Rec department led to the installation of new, brighter lighting in the parking lot and at the park’s main shelter. The new lighting greatly improves visibility throughout the most active portions of the park.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: LBNA opens Adopt-A-Park program for 2023

The Lower Beaver Neighborhood Association’s award-winning Adopt-A-Park program is now accepting volunteers for 2023. Volunteers with the program walk through the park on a weekly basis to identify maintenance needs and safety concerns. LBNA to host Mega SCRUB event May 20 (VOLUNTEERS NEEDED)

The LBNA and several other neighborhood associations across the city’s northwest side will host a Mega SCRUB event at Polk County River Place on Saturday, May 20, from 7a until 1p. The event will allow Des Moines residents to dispose of bulk trash items, tires, appliances, and hazardous waste. Volunteers are needed to make this event a success!

This year, a group of 19 households from the Lower Beaver Neighborhood will participate in the city’s Community Block Challenge Grant. The homes, located primarily along Brinkwood and Lower Beaver. The LBNA will be following their progress in the weeks to come!

Samuelson Elementary students compete at Drake Relays

On April 27, a team of students from Samuelson Elementary competed in the elementary shuttle relay at the Drake Relays. The team consisted of fifth-graders who tried out for the honor of representing Samuelson Elementary and the Lower Beaver Neighborhood at the prestigious track and field event.
