LBNA hosts third-annual Summer Fest
On Saturday, July 13, the LBNA hosted its third-annual Summer Fest to celebrate the cultural diversity present within the neighborhood. Residents enjoyed a range of food and other vendors, family-friendly games and activities, and live entertainment. They were also able to receive vaccinations and learn about a variety of agencies and organizations.

First day of school
The 2024-2025 school year is off and running in the Lower Beaver Neighborhood. Johnston Community Schools began classes on Friday, August 23, and Des Moines Public Schools began on Monday, August 25. City council moves ahead with next phase of Douglas Avenue corridor revitalization
At its April 15 meeting, the Des Moines City Council voted unanimously to approve spending $600,000 to begin designing the next phase of the Douglas Ave. This phase of the plan is expected to take 3-4 years to implement and will culminate in the reconfiguration of the street based on the pilot project findings and citizen feedback, major improvements to sidewalks, and the installation of a new mid-block pedestrian crossing near 30th St.

The LBNA’s third annual Summer Fest will be held July 13 at Woodlawn Park. This event is designed to celebrate the cultural diversity blossoming in the Lower Beaver Neighborhood. It will feature kid- and family-friendly activities, cultural exhibitions, and food vendors. Stay tuned for more details!
LBNA to sponsor Mega SCRUB event; volunteers needed!
On Saturday, May 18, the LBNA and other northwest Des Moines neighborhoods will sponsor a Mega SCRUB event at Polk County River Place (2309 Euclid Ave.) from 7:00 am until 1:00 pm.
