LBNA elects officers, approves bylaws
On February 6, the LBNA met for its annual pot-luck and business meeting. After enjoying a wide range of excellent food, those gathered heard a recap of what the LBNA did during 2024, and some goals for 2025, from President Jeremy Geerdes. Polk County Supervisor Angela Connolly provided updates from around the county, with conversation focusing on the impact of recent state and federal legislation on budgets and programs. Des Moines city councilmen Mike Simonson (at-large) and Chris Coleman (Ward 1) then shared news from the city, with conversation focusing on the city’s budget gap.
Following the community updates, Phil Sickles shared information about lead water service lines in Des Moines. He advised those in attendees about some of the health effects of ingesting too much lead and encouraged people to test their water for lead. If Des Moines Water Works suspects a home has lead service lines, they will provide a water test kit for free. For all others, water test kits may be purchased from Des Moines Water Works for $18.
Those in attendance proceeded to elect officers and directors.
- Jeremy Geerdes, President
- Izak Yaw, Vice President
- Mary Edwards, Secretary
- Steve Laudick, Treasurer
- Claudia Thrane
- Bill Sherman
- Allan Olney
- Jeff Berger
After some discussion, those assembled also approved updated by-laws for the association. Details of the new bylaws can be found here: https://lowerbeaver.org/index.php/2024/02/13/feb-19-lbna-to-hold-annual-meeting-elect-officers-and-update-bylaws/
