LBNA discusses broadband internet options

At its August 21 meeting, LBNA President Jeremy Geerdes presented information about the various broadband internet options in the neighborhood. The presentation was intended to teach residents about internet options currently available and inform them about other options coming to the area in the next few years.

The presentation highlighted an important reality for the Lower Beaver Neighborhood. Given the tremendous growth in online learning, working remotely, and more, the availability of affordable, reliable, high-speed internet access is increasingly essential to the vitality of the community. Without it, neither families nor businesses will want to locate in the community. This is especially critical given that some key areas of Lower Beaver, including much of the Douglas Avenue commercial corridor, are still served by only one or two broadband providers, and the lack of competition allows prices to increase, speeds to languish, and reliability to flounder.

“This gives us an idea of where we are,” Geerdes said concerning the presentation. “We need to be talking to our city council today about developing the data infrastructure our neighborhood is going to need to thrive through the middle of this century because what we have now isn’t going to be enough.”
