River Place Mega SCRUB serves more than 600 vehicles

On May 20, the Lower Beaver Neighborhood Association and other northwest neighborhoods, along with the Des Moines Public Works, hosted a Mega SCRUB event at Polk County River Place. Mega SCRUB events provide residents the opportunity to dispose of bulky items that do not fit in regular trash toters, tires, appliances, and even hazardous waste. They are crucial to preventing such things from littering our neighborhoods and polluting our waterways.

At the River Place Mega SCRUB event, 574 vehicles filled 33 dumpsters of trash. In addition, 147 appliances were discarded and 3 roll-offs of tires processed. An additional 103 vehicles disposed of hazardous waste.

The River Place event also served as a fundraiser, raising more than $1,000 for the neighborhood associations involved. These funds will be distributed based on the number of volunteers who helped run the event.
